Construction Manager for Automotive Plant Facilities

Responsibilities: 

Senior Construction Manager with 10-15 years' prior experience in automotive plant / shop construction.  Candidates should have prior familiarity with shops (Body, Paint, General Assembly) and infrastructure typical to large automotive plants.

Candidates will have strong abilities to:

  • Deliver construction objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching and managing team members; communicating job expectations and performance; planning/monitoring/appraising job contributions; and adhering to all client policies and procedures.
  • Manage subcontractors by supporting the process of locating, evaluating and selecting subcontractors and then monitoring and controlling performance.
  • Meet / exceed client's operational standards by proactively delivering body/paint/assembly shop construction information to client plans; implementing production/productivity/quality and customer-service standards through the facility being constructed; resolving problems; identifying construction management system improvements.
  • Meet/improve construction budget by monitoring project expenditures; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions; providing non-project annual operating and capital budget information.
  • Deliver construction project results by defining project purpose and scope; calculating resources required; establishing standards and protocols; allocating resources; scheduling and coordinating staff and subcontractors; evaluating milestone assumptions and conclusions; supporting the resolution of design problems; evaluating and implementing change orders.
  • Approve construction projects by conducting inspections at critical phases; obtaining approvals from client.
  • Prevent punitive actions and interruptions by complying with and enforcing all relevant codes.
  • Maintain a safe, secure and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with client and all legal requirements.
  • Update job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging construction practices and standards.

 

Skills: 
  • Familiarity with effective utilization of leading project management software applications, in order to manage the project.
  • Overall understanding of preparing client progress reports for appropriate content and forecasting.
  • Risk management capabilities
  • Team-building and team performance management.
  • Previous experience in delivering / managing construction programs for automotive.
  • Fluency in English required.  Capabilities in western Slavic languages desired.
  • Prior project experience in European/Eastern European countries preferred.
  • Prior project experience working as the integration point / focal point between project stakeholders.
  • Excellent history of delivering on time, quality, cost, health/safety/environmental targets.
  • Prior background with LEED-certified facilities desired.
Education: 

Bachelor's degree equivalent in construction management, project management or engineering.
